Best Practices:
1. Upload your content from local networks. This is the most secure method to store digital content.
NOTE: PDF files and Tools can be added to the course as Reference Material. When tools are added as resources to a course, learners will have access to them immediately without needing to launch a separate module to gain access to supplemental documents.
2. After content is loaded, click the refresh icon in the Learning Navigator to refresh the folders. To validate the content works, locate the content object in the Learning Navigator tree and click the the eye glasses icon next to it.
NOTE: Alternatively, you can select the course folder and click the View or Edit tab, and then scroll down to locate the content object and click the the eye glasses icon next to it.
IMPORTANT: You must publish a content object for a learner to be able to launch and view the content.
3. To publish a course, on the View tab of the course, click the Publish button.
NOTE: When course titles are italicized and grey text they are not currently published in the LMS.
When courses titles appear in black text when published in the learning navigator.
Updating Existing Custom Course:
To prepare unpublished content, check the following:
- Content uploaded from a local drive or network.
- Links are updated to the most current content from external sources (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo).
- Content with hyperlinks directing learners to legacy LMS or shop.
- Use HTML in course descriptions as a guide to understanding what was loaded into the course to help solve issues and publish content. When you finish editing courses, update descriptions by removing the HTML notes.
- Add a meaningful description for the course since this information will be visible to learners.
Troubleshooting External Content (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo):
- From the Edit Tab at the parent object level, ensure that the following is configured:
-
- Tracking Type: Select the Launch Auto Complete option.
- Open in a new window: Select the Yes option.
- From the Edit Tab at the sub object level, ensure that the following is configured:
- Content Location: Select the External option.
-
- External URL: Enter the External URL link.
- Open in a new window: Select the Yes option.
