Modalities in the LMS
A common way to deliver courses in the LMS is either by using offerings, a learning paths or Channels. These delivery modes (e.g., online, classroom, learning path and channels) are part of the system standard. Modalities provide further flexibility in the configuration of these types, offering the ability to control both the label and behavior of each delivery.
The modalities functionality enables administrators to create as many modalities. Once implemented, other functionality can take advantage of modalities to incorporate more refined logic around business processes.
The LMS uses the following modalities:
- Article (ART)
- Audio (AU)
- Certification (CERT)
- Online (O)
- Podcast (PC)
- Presentation (PRES)
- Subscription (SN)
- Tool (TOOL)
- Video (VID)
- Workbook (WB)
- Learning path (LP)
- Learning Path - Self paced (LPSP)
- Mini Course (MC)
- Mini Course Learning Path (LMC)
- Book (BK)
Assigning Modalities
There are three ways to assign modalities to content:

At the creation screen: if the modality has been turned, then it becomes a mandatory field.

By editing an object: the modality field will be found in the Edit tab.

By import: import type allowing the creation of objects must include a modality column.
Permissions
Modalities creation is reserved for Tier 3 admins only.
